Puppy biting may not be a huge concern at first because the dog is so small and cute.  This phase does not usually last too long, but as the puppy’s teeth grow and they begin to get their adult teeth, the playful nipping could get quite painful.  You would do well to know how to train a puppy not to bite so that you can save yourself from unnecessary pain as well as keeping your dog from getting into a dangerous habit.

Puppies relate to others in their litter by playfully biting and nipping. This behavior is perfectly normal but still needs to be addressed in order to create a well behaved adult dog.  Some simple steps are outlined in this video that will give you the information you need to help get a handle on your pup’s biting.

How to Train a Puppy Not to Bite

This dog trainer covered a technique of allowing the puppy to bite your hand, then yelling out “Ouch!” to startle the puppy.  She then suggests turning away and ending the playing as a signal that they have reached the boundary with you.  This is similar to the behavior they would encounter when with their litter mates and they will soon understand that their biting is unacceptable.  How to train a puppy not to bite is not complicated, but it does take some time and patience.
