Dogs naturally gravitate toward anything that feels like a den, so learning how to train your dog to love his crate might not be as hard as you think. Understanding that dogs are comfortable in dens is important. It is in their DNA to use a den as their place to retreat, hide from predators and raise their families. For these reasons you do not ever want to use the crate as a punishment for your dog. This would greatly confuse them and you will not be helping them to do what comes naturally and be able to use the crate as a safe place.

You want them to want to go into the crate and this video will help you see a good method for doing that. You will also want to work on this training with your dog for about 15 or so minutes at least a couple of times per day.

It may seem a little weird at first to be directing your dog in and out of the crate over and over, but it is important that they feel free about the movement.  The earlier you can introduce the crate to your dog, the better. The idea is for them to have their own space in your home and to know that they are okay when in the crate.  Do your part by learning how to train your dog to love his crate.
